The
Government is requested to apply an opening policy to Triple Play
services
The president of the Board of Directors of the
Senate, Carlos Navarrete, asked the executive to allow every national
and foreign company that requests it to enter Triple Play.
Navarrete Ruiz said that the Government must
promote open competition in the telecommunications area so that
there can be quality services and an immediate decrease in rates,
which are some of the highest in the world.

The
popular digital TV converters to be launched on market at USD
67.1
The special advisor of the Casa Civil, André Barbosa,
pointed out that next February the so-called popular converters
for digital TV will be launched on the market for approximately
US$ 67.1.
He indicated that four companies will be engaged in manufacturing
the equipment: NXP, Intel, Broadcom and Encore. He explained that
those converters will be fitted with a Browser, high definition
and MPEG4. He addd that those equipment may be possibly fitted
with Ginga, which will raise the final price between US$ 3 and
US$ 5, but it will ensure interactivity.
He also pointed out that those equipment might
be imported from Chile –as it has already got the Japanese-Brazilan
digital TVstandard- since the lowest priced equipment of the outside
market may be bought in that country.

Intercable is equipped to offer double and triple play services
Red Intercable continues to promote Double and Triple
Play among its 130 cable companies scattered in 19 provinces.
As a result, it recenlty purchased 30,000 computers and 10,000
digital TV cable modems for telephony from Scientific Atlanta.
Moreover, the largest operator within this cluster of SMEs is
Telefuego (Rio Grande, Tierra del Fuego), which provides digital
TV, analog, broadband and telephony. The information is part of

Government
wants to launch digital TV by March 2010
Between March and June next year, the
Government wants to digital television system and to cover at
least main "30 cities" of the country.
Today, public television –analog– does not
reach 50% of population. The plan was commented to Convergencialatina
by main players of project, that includes the manufacturing of
set-top-boxes and aerial infrastructure.
